The Amazing Air Powered Car

My son told me about this car yesterday. He had learned about it during an English Language Arts test of all things. He was very intrigued and so was I. We did further research together on the internet. Exact technical details are not available to avoid industrial theft but enough information exists to give you an idea of how exciting this technology is.

Imagine a car that causes zero pollution and is run on air. Further imagine that the air used in the brakes is recycled back into the air tank. And to top that off, the process involved in running the engine creates very cold air which is suitable for air conditioning!

It is anticipated that this car will be refilled at an air station in 3 minutes. The stations will be at adapted gas stations.(Buses in France already use high pressure compressor filling stations and air jets). You will also be able to refill the air in your garage. A few other Alternative sources have been theorized.

The mileage should be about double that of electric cars. The oil used in the engine is vegetable oil, and only needs to be changed every 50,000 kilometers.

Amazing. Looks a bit plastic though. Probably needs to stay as light as possible.

[…] Todaysgizmos has also blogged about a car that runs on air. The air car is perhaps an environmentalist’s dream come true. It does not produce pollution, recycles the air used in its brake, expels a cold air suitable for internal air conditioning minus gases. It also uses vegetable oil in its engine. […]

nice cute car.. a real compact car unlike todays compacts!

I remember reading about this in a Popular Mechanics / Science magazine that a cab company in India (I can’t remember the city) purchased these vehicles to cut down on the air pollution there.

    Actually?? No but wait.. ACTUALLY!?!
WOW if this takes off can you say Nobel Prize? Personally I can’t see this ever becoming mainstream since automakers don’t want to make cars that don’t make them excessive profits. Look at the electric car, the technology and demand was there, but then they cut supply and killed the industry before it even took off. Hope it doesn’t happen to this prototype because we sure do need more energy efficient solutions in the automobile industry.

It used to be an insult to be told, ‘You’re full of air”. T’aint so no more.

The one question I have is wether or not it is cost effective when considering the electricity consumption needed to fuel the vehicles. You need to consider the fact that it will put an extra added strain on the electric company’s which burn mostly fossil fuels. I think the car needs to be able to produce it’s own air similiar to that of a altenator. I think that the car would be a great idea. However, they probably don’t pass the safety standards we have in the US. I think the car will have to be changed somewhat before our fine Gov will let it in. If the oil company’s have anything to say about it we will never see it here in the US.

We can kill two birds with one stone here. By using all the hot air coming from Washington, we will also quell some of the Global Warming fears !
