Enough clean electricity will be produced to light 70,000 homes. This will be the largest solar power plant in the world if it comes to fruition. This power plant will use solar trough technology which consists of rows of parabolic mirrors that heat liquid-filled tubes to produce steam that drive electricity-generating turbines. Heat storage takes place in silos of molten salt. The heat is released on cloudy days to continue running the turbines.

Even though the cost of producing energy this way will initially be expensive, in the long run, it is anticipated that it will end up costing less as more plants come online, parts become standardized and carbon caps and fees are levied on plants emitting CO2.

Solar Trough The construction of this plant and others like it will produce jobs but congress will need to renew the green energy credit which expires at the end of this year otherwise costs may end up being prohibitive.
