LED Interior Lighting for the Budget Conscious

LED lights are now making an appearance in regular home lighting fixtures. They are generally more efficient and brighter than compact fluorescents without the delay of reaching full brightness that many types of fluorescents have. Personally I love LED lights for those very reasons and I find them especially useful in flashlights. I wrote a review on  a product from Black and Decker that included my favorite flashlight. When the batteries go down the light starts dimming and that drives me crazy. With most people now paying very close attention to their budgets, LED’s and their low energy usage will become mainstream soon. We did replace most of our home lights with compact fluorescents but now with the advent of home LED lighting fixtures this may be the next project on our list. I looked at a few LED interior spot lights and accent lights.

I also checked these out. These bulbs can be used in MR-16 track lighting fixtures.

LED Lighting

They are 12 volts and are rated for 100,000 hours. More info is available at BuyLightFixtures.com.

These LED tubes fit a T8 fluorescent fixture. We have several of the fluorescent style in our barn. It might be time to switch to these.

LED Lighting

The brightness is similar to a 40W T8 bulb, but these use only 14W of electricity. You can save 26W per bulb. More info at SolCol.net.

Halogen lights burn extremely hot, as anyone who’s tried changing one knows only to well. LEDs are cool to the touch - why pay for heat when what you want is light?

Excellent post. I actually used to sell energy efficient lighting to condos and businesses years ago, but I’ve been out of touch with the field. Even when I was in the loop, however, I never had access to LED T8s! Very cool.

Talk about out of touch. I’ll have to check these out on my next visit to the states.

LED lights sources are making some impact on the market. With lumen outputs of 150 per watt of electrical input, these low heat, low energy, light emitting diodes will change the face of lighting. But not until the low output, poorly coloured and narrow beam LED pushed onto the market are sidelined. Currently an end user would find it hard to know the difference between one cheap LED MR16 lamp retro fit of $1.50p and a $10.00 unit. However the difference will be seen when the lamps are switched on.

I love LED’s. We are replacing our outdoor lighting for the acreage with solar powered LED lights. The price has really come down on LEDs.

LED lights definitely have almost no lag time. I am using them now. Flourescents are not bad either but LED definitely are better.
